BETHANY, Okla. (AP) _ Bobby Martin resigned Thursday after 17 seasons as men's basketball coach at Southern Nazarene University.

Martin, who had a record of 336-222, is stepping down to serve full time as director of athletics, school president Loren Gresham said.

``No person in SNU intercollegiate athletics' 40-year history has made a more significant contribution than Coach Bobby Martin,'' Gresham said.

Martin was twice named Sooner Athletic Conference coach of the year. In 1998, the Crimson Storm finished second at the NAIA national tournament and he was named NAIA coach of the year.

``My tenure as basketball coach has been rewarding, but I now look forward to focusing all of my efforts as the athletic director,'' Martin said.
