At least three passengers are confirmed dead after a private airplane bound for Harvey Young Airport (near 51st and 145th East Avenue), crashed shortly before 4pm on Monday.
Eyewitnesses report the plane smoking, sputtering, losing altitude and then nosediving into the ground. Radio traffic indicates the aircraft was likely a 6-passenger Cherokee.
The crash sparked a grass fire that spread quickly but has since been contained. We will have more details as they become available.
