Highway crews working hard to clear the roads of snow and ice

The highways are in remarkably good shape, especially when you consider how much snow fell and how fast it fell.

News on 6 reporter Steve Berg says consider the number of snowplows available. We have about 5 or 6 per county here in Oklahoma. In a northern state like Michigan, we found out they have anywhere from twice to four times that number.

Make no mistake, this is a northern-caliber storm. In some places around Pawhuska, they got close to 18 inches of snow. Gary Evans with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, "The roads up there are still snow-packed and we're working on those now that it stopped snowing yesterday, gives us a chance to catch up, we hope the sun comes out which helps it melt a little bit but the temperatures are so cold with it only getting up to 20, the potential for melting is not that great."

Here in Tulsa, icy patches are the "exception", not the rule, but it just takes that one. And since they're not as frequent, they tend to surprise you.
