The flu is taking its toll on area schools. Several Oklahoma schools were forced to close last week, because so many students were suffering from flu-like symptoms.
Now, the state health department says we may be in for a second wave of influenza. The first case of Type "A" influenza was reported last week. The "A" strain has caused all of the nation's epidemics over the last forty years.
The health department says it is not too late to get a flu vaccine to protect yourself. You can increase your chances of staying well if you keep your distance from people who have the flu. Wash your hands frequently. And try not to share drinking glasses or eating utensils.
The Centers for disease control says flu deaths are up nationwide. From 20,000 a year to 36,000.
