The Internal Revenue Service will hold a workshop April 27 to assist families of Oklahoma City bombing victims.
The workshop will explain recent tax law changes aimed at helping victims of terrorism.
Under legislation passed after Sept. 11, families of individuals who died as a result of the terrorist attacks are exempt from income tax in the year their loved ones died, plus the prior year. For those affected by the Oklahoma City bombing, the years are 1994 and 1995.
The income tax relief is guaranteed to be at least $10,000 per family.
``I encourage the families of Oklahoma bombing victims to take advantage of this tax help,'' said Sen. Don Nickles, R-Okla., who announced the help day jointly with fellow Sen. Jim Inhofe. ``Those impacted by the 1995 bombing were no less victims of terrorism than the September 11 victims and should receive these tax benefits.''
Inhofe said he hoped family members don't hesitate to take advantage of the workshop.
``This is part of the government's legitimate and compassionate response to recent acts of terrorism,'' he said.
The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the IRS office at 55 N. Robinson, Oklahoma City.
