Local military forces get word their time has come. 57 Air National Guardsmen based out of Tulsa were called to active duty on September 11th.
Most of those men and women were deployed this past weekend. News on Six reporter Heather Brooker visited the 138th Air Fighter Wing and says at this point, their mission is being kept under wraps for security reasons. And even if we had that information, it wouldn't be prudent to report it at this time. But we do know guardsmen will be very busy once they reach their destination.
The 138th Air National Guard is at level "Charlie", the second highest security level in the nation next to "Delta". Several guardsmen from the Fighter Wing have been deployed; the exact number is being withheld for security reason. Lt Col Willie Braggs: "Some of those folks that we activated were actually deployed to different locations around the country and also overseas."
As the conflict heats up in the Afghanistan, Braggs says it's important to remember the men and women of the 138th Fighter Wing are well prepared. "We train constantly out here and we're really training hard right now because there's always people out there in the world that don’t' want to do what's best for the entire world so we stay trained and focused so we can defend that time when it comes up.â€
The Fighter Wing is a multi-role air-to-ground unit.
