ROME, Italy (AP) _ Five cyclists tested positive for banned substances in last month's national championships, the Italian Cycling Federation said Friday. It did not disclose their names.

Two tested positive after the national mountain-bike championships, two after amateur races and one at the national against-the-clock championship.

Meanwhile, Florence prosecutors looking into alleged doping violations at this year's Giro d'Italia, announced that it would begin questioning in September of 52 people under investigation.

The investigation began with a June 6 police raid in the hotel rooms and vehicles of all 20 teams competing in the Giro.

Under Italian law, taking or administering banned substances in sports is punishable by up to three years in jail.

The sports dailies Corriere dello Sport and Gazzetta dello Sport reported Friday that former Tour of France winner Jan Ullrich was among the racers who will be questioned by Florence prosecutors.
