(Undated-AP) -- Maybe the Western Open should be renamed the Cowboy Classic. That's because a bevy of former Oklahoma State stars are scattered across the leader board.
Scott Verplank is tied for fifth heading into today's third round. Verplank started the day yesterday tied for 11th, but fired a 3-under par 69 to get to 6-under for the tournament.
After an opening round even-par 72, former Cowboy great Charles Howell shot a 3-under 69 yesterday. Howell, last season's N-C-double-A champ, is tied for 26th.
The course wasn't as kind to Bob Tway. Tway started began his day tied for sixth, but shot a 2-over 74 and fell into a tie for 40th at 2-under.
Joining Tway in that group is Bob May. May shot a 2-under 70 yesterday.
The entire group of Cowboys is chasing Davis Love the Third, who shot a 5-under 66. Love is 11-under and leads the field by three.
