(San Francisco-AP) -- In a career that has been heaped with honors, Barry Bonds got one that apparently surprised him completely.

Yesterday -- the team unveiled a plaque at Pacific Bell Park marking Bonds' 500th home run. He hit that one on April 17th. He's at 39 and counting for the season.

If you want to check out the plaque, it's outside the park, behind right field along the port walk towards McCovey Cove. It has Barry's handprints and signature in the cement.

Before yesterday's game, Bonds was joined on the field for a special ceremony by his family, some hall of famers, and team officials. Giant Vice President Larry Baer unveiled the plaque and congratulated Bonds.

Bonds said he had no idea the plaque was in the works.
