Friday was the 30th anniversary of the federal Clean Water act, and Tulsans have a day of their own to celebrate. The mayor, Friday proclaimed the day as "Tulsa's Water Quality Day."
Tulsa's Public Works Department, along with volunteers from Tulsa's Blue Thumb collected water samples from the Crow Creek area Friday. The sample is one of thousands scheduled to be taken from streams, lakes and coastal waters from around the United States to monitor the quality of water in the country.
Locally, there are several steps citizens can take to keep Tulsa's water clean. From maintaining your vehicle, to picking up pet waste, and using fertilizer and pesticides properly.
In addition to monthly tests performed by Blue Thumb volunteers, Public Works employees monitor 150 sites in the city's storm sewer system each year.
