Tulsa mayor Bill LaFortune is trying to clear up confusion about bringing pro soccer to Tulsa. Particularly, he's addressing where money for a study is coming from.
Thousands of people, from kids to adults play soccer right here in Green Country. Many are hopeful a Major League Soccer team is brought here. A feasibility study will be done to determine if Tulsa can support a team.
The mayor held a news conference to outline a private-public partnership to find out. “The community wanted to see this feasibility study done on soccer. They knew there was a time factor crunch to get it done, so how can we get it done, but yet make sure other studies that have to be done that are just as important or more important as we move forward, get done also."
The Chamber of Commerce will use $107,000 in private money to pay for the study. Mayor LaFortune hopes the city council will match it with public money from an economic development fund.
The city council could decide at their meeting Thursday whether to spend that money.
