About 1,200 electrical customers were without power in northern Oklahoma late Wednesday after heavy thunderstorms brought heavy rain and frequent lightning to much of the state.
The Storm Prediction Center in Norman issued a thunderstorm watch for 60 Oklahoma counties in western, northern, southern and central Oklahoma through Thursday morning.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for more than 10 counties. The storms were accompanied by large hail, frequent lightning and wind gusts up to 90 mph.
Forecasters said supercell storms built across the western part of the state through late Wednesday night ahead of a cold front that pushed into northwest Oklahoma. Isolated tornados were possible, but none were reported.
Additional thunderstorms were likely in eastern Oklahoma Thursday morning.
