SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) _ State Sen. Brad Henry formally declared his candidacy for governor Monday here in his hometown.
Henry, a Democrat, is seeking to replace Gov. Frank Keating, whose second and final term ends this year.
He favors creation of a state lottery with revenue going to education. He has also voiced support for HMO reforms and expanded health care, tax relief for senior citizens and improvements in education and teacher salaries.
Henry planned similar announcements Monday in McAlester, Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Lawton.
Other Democrats running for governor are businessman Vince Orza, state Sen. Kelly Haney, D-Seminole, and state Rep. Jim Dunegan, D-Calera.
Steve Largent, who stepped down from Congress to run for governor, is a major Republican gubernatorial candidate. Jim Denny is also running as a Republican.
Gary Richardson is running as an independent.
