(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The Great Seal of Oklahoma conflict continues after nine decades.

State Representative Frank Davis, a Republican from Guthrie, has filed legislation to move the seal back to Guthrie. Guthrie was the state's first capital.

He says the town of Guthrie had the seal and the capital stolen from them. He says it's time to bring it home.

The seal was used in Guthrie to conduct all state business until 1910. Then it was taken about 40 miles east to Oklahoma City.

Historian Irvin Hurst says the seal was smuggled out of the Logan County Courthouse concealed in a bundle of laundry by aides to then-Governor C-N Haskell.

At the time, Guthrie residents were disputing an election in which Oklahoma City was chosen over Guthrie and Shawnee to be the capital.
