DAVIE, Fla. (AP) _ The Miami Dolphins acquired tight end Alonzo Mayes from the Chicago Bears for an undisclosed late-round draft choice Monday.
Mayes started 28 games for the Bears, including three this season, but made only 33 receptions for 339 yards with one touchdown. He was a fourth-round draft choice in 1998 out of Oklahoma State.
``With the style of offense they were running in Chicago, it doesn't match up with the type of player he is,'' Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt said. ``This is a good opportunity for him at a position we're looking to strengthen.''
Mayes, 25, will give the Dolphins depth behind Hunter Goodwin, Jed Weaver and Ed Perry. Perry is expected to return this week from a shoulder injury.
To make room for Mayes on the roster, Miami waived linebacker Tommy Hendricks, a rookie free agent out of Michigan.
