Firefighters had to slow down a fast moving grassfire Saturday afternoon.
It started around 1:00p.m. north of Oologah, just off Road 36 in Rogers County.
The wind made it a tough battle because it helped the fire move quickly.
Two National Guard helicopters and one from the U.S. Forestry Department dumped water on the fire. More than 200 firefighters from 11 eleven departments fought on the ground
The fire destroyed dozens of hay bales and a barn, and got very close to more than forty homes.
“They started loading up all our dogs. Everyone was heading out of the driveway and I'm grabbing pictures of my kids out of my house. And thank God for the fire department, they did wonderful," says Laura Leech, eyewitness.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital to get stitches because he cut his head while fighting the fire.
