(Miami-AP) -- Two Miami police officers are on routine administrative leave after one of them fatally shot a motorist who allegedly came at them with a knife.

Forty-nine-year-old Lowell D. Mobley of Webb City, Missouri, was pronounced dead shortly before eleven p-m Wednesday at a Miami hospital.

Police Chief Gary Anderson says Lieutenant Dan Dorey stopped Mobley's vehicle about 10:30 p-m after the officer noticed Mobley driving erratically.

Anderson says Mobley allegedly got out his pickup truck shouting obscenities and threatened Dorey and backup officer Sergeant Terry Durborow. Anderson says the officers repeatedly told Mobley to drop a ten-inch knife, but he refused.

Authorities say Durborow fired four rounds within three feet of Mobley after Mobley swiped at Dorey with the knife.
