(Tulsa-AP) -- A Tulsa woman rescued 25 years ago from a house fire that killed her infant brother and sister has given thanks to one of four firefighters who saved her.
Judy Girdner-Weber met yesterday with Elvin Wells, who helped rescue her in 1975. Girdner-Weber now needs a lung transplant because of the fire.
She has no insurance and had to prove her health problem stemmed from a fire in order to get assistance. She still needs $316,000 for the transplant.
Wells says he vividly remembered the fire once his memory was jogged. He says he remembered being a new father himself when he carried an infant who died in the fire out of the house. He was filling in for another firefighter that night. He said meeting Girdner-Weber will be a bright spot in his career and life.
