(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Eight Oklahoma sites are being added to the National Register of Historic Places. The distinctions give Oklahoma a total of 956 properties recognized on the national register.
The state Historic Preservation Office has asked that five additional properties be recognized.
Among the latest additions: the Burrus Mills Elevator "C" in Kingfisher; the Ardmore Carnegie Library; the Aldridge Hotel in Shawnee; the Barnard Elementary School in Tecumseh; the Carl K. Dresser House in Tulsa; Wintersmith Park Historic District in Ada; the Sayre Rock Island Depot and Saint Stephens Episcopal Church in Chandler.
The state Historic Preservation Office hopes to have 1,000 Oklahoma sites on the national register by the end of the year.
