MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minnesota Timberwolves swingman Malik Sealy was killed early Saturday in a head-on collision in a Minneapolis suburb.

Authorities refused to comment on several reports of Sealy's death, but a source close to the player, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed it to The Associated Press.

The team scheduled a late-afternoon news conference at which Timberwolves president Rob Moor planned to read a prepared statement. A moment of silence was observed at the opener of the Western Conference finals between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Lakers.
Sources told WCCO-AM and the Star Tribune that Sealy's sport utility vehicle was hit head-on by a pickup truck traveling the wrong way on a divided highway at about 4 a.m.
