(Fort Smith, Arkansas-AP) -- U-S Army Corps of Engineers officials would like to help industry along the Arkansas River. A three-hour meeting was held Monday night with corp officials to hear ideas from the public on how to improve the McCellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System.

The officials from the Little Rock District of the corps discussed with farmers and representatives of businesses how to improve the navigation system.

Monday's meeting was the first part of a three-year research study on the river.

One of the topics was adjusting the operation of the eleven Oklahoma reservoirs that feed into the Arkansas River. Also discussed were adjustments to rock dikes along the river to improve the river flow.
