TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- The father of a Tulsa Jail inmate who authorities said committed suicide is suing the Corrections Corporation of America.
Steven Morris does not believe that the cause of his son's death was self-inflicted, the lawsuit states. Corey Adam Morris was found dead in his cell Jan. 15 with a bed sheet tied around his neck and to a bunk.
CCA fired corrections officers Steven Stokes and Kevin Black after the death, saying the two men failed to follow company policies.
The family's attorney, Rabon Martin, said relatives talked to Morris the day before his death and he sounded "totally upbeat" and spoke about getting out of jail soon.
Steven Morris also has not received any incident reports or documents from CCA regarding his son's death, Martin said.
CCA declined to comment on the lawsuit.
Corey Morris had been booked into the Tulsa Jail on complaints of second-degree burglary after a felony conviction and knowingly possessing stolen property after a felony conviction.
