REDMOND, Wash. (AP) - Rick Acton, who played in PGA championships and U.S. Opens, has died of liver cancer at 54.
Action, who died Thursday at his wife's home at the Sahalee Country Club, was a major force in golf in the Pacific Northwest.
He won three Washington Opens, three Northwest Opens, four Oregon Opens, five Pacific Northwest section PGA championships and six Washington state PGA match play titles.
Acton, head professional at Sahalee from 1984 to 1996, was an 11-time Hudson Cup Team member and played in nine PGA championships and four U.S. Open championships. He had three top-five finishes on the PGA Tour in the 1980s.
Playing on the Senior Tour in 1996-97, he earned $692,128.
Funeral plans were pending. Acton is survived by his widow, Debbie.
