OKEMAH, Okla. (AP) -- More than 400 human teeth were found in the walls and floors of an old dentist office as it was being demolished.
Steve Melton, owner of Melton and Sons Demolition Co., said the teeth were discovered as his crew was tearing down an old two-story building where the upper floor had been a dentist's and doctor's office in the 1930s and 1940s.
Melton said it appeared the dentist had pulled the teeth and then just thrown them on the floor, where they slipped into cracks and eventually collected in the metal ceiling below the office.
The crews also found several old dental tools, journals and ledgers dating to 1923, he said.
