(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Former Nebraska coach Tom Osborne will be awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Jim Thorpe Association next week. Osborne will be honored for his accomplishments on and off the football field in a ceremony on February 17th. He is only the fifth person to receive the honor.

Osborne coached the Cornhuskers for 25 years. During that time, he won three national titles, 13 conference championships and at least nine games every year. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

The Jim Thorpe Association noted the academic success of Osborne's team during his final six years as coach. Former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer will present the award. The association is named for former Olympian Jim Thorpe.
