DALLAS (AP) -- Texas pitcher Phil Seibel and Iowa State third baseman Rob Conway are the Big 12 pitcher and player of the week. Working 12 innings for the Longhorns last week, Seibel (2-0) surrendered just one run for a 0.75 ERA, struck out eight and allowed one extra-base hit each game.
On Feb. 2, the left-hander pitched six scoreless innings against UT-Arlington, combining with Ray Clark and Kevin Frizzell for a 7-0shutout of the Mavericks. After yielding one run Sunday against Houston, Seibel pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just fid .514 (8-14) with two home runs and 10 RBI for the Cyclones during a three-game series at Air Force.
Conway did not commit an error in 10 chances and earned a 1.000 slugging percentage with three doubles, the two homers, and five singles. He went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning in the series opener, then enjoyed back-to-back 3-for-5 outings in the second and third games.
