OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Dan Mirabal's Smooth the Loot was a romping winner in Sunday's $14,250 allowance feature at Remington Park as the opening weekend of the 2000 Thoroughbred Mini-Meet concluded. Trained by Mirabal and ridden by Benny Landeros, Smooth the Loot moved to the lead of the race as the field entered the final turn of the one mile.
Gliding by the pace setting Semore Smoke, Smooth the Loot expanded his margin over his rivals to win by 9-1/2lengths. The mile was handled in 1:37 4/5 over a fast main track. The heavy favorite at 4-5 odds, Smooth the Loot paid $3.60 to win, $3 to place and $3 to show. Atta Boy Bo returned $4.20 to place and $3.60 to show. Honest Pursuit paid $3.80 to show.
Smooth the Loot picked up $8,100 for his 11th career win from 32 lifetime attempts. A brown 7-year-old horse by Seattle Dancer, Smooth the Loot has now made $204,975 in his career. Jockey Cliff Berry won one race Sunday and is the leading rider after three days with six victories. Berry now needs just four wins to reach the career milestone of 1,500.
