A member of the Oklahoma Regents for Higher Education has died. Stephen Jatras died Saturday at age 73.
Jatras had been a trustee at the University of Tulsa and a regent for Tulsa Community College before Governor Keating appointed him a higher education regent in 1995 and again to a full-nine-year term in 1996. Jatras was also the former president and chief executive officer of Telex Corporation.
While at Telex, he invented a "plug-compatible" terminal that worked with IBM computers. Jatras became the chief executive officer of Telex in 1981. The company was touted by Forbes magazine as one of the fastes growing companies in the country in 1987. Jatras was listed among" America's corporate elite," which was a list of chief executives of the most valuable publicly owned companies.
Services for Jatras will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Tulsa.
