(Tulsa,OK) KOTV-Channel 6 in Tulsa, and KWTV-Channel 9 in Oklahoma City have joined forces to bring viewers extraordinary access to live radar information. AdvanceDoppler 6 Live WARN (Wide Area Radar Network) combines the powerful technology of KOTV's AdvanceDoppler 6 Live Radar and KWTV's Doppler 9000.

"This `double doppler' will be a tremendous advantage to KOTV's viewers," said Jim Giles, KOTV Chief Meteorologist. "AdvanceDoppler 6 Live WARN gives us unprecedented information about storms approaching our area from the west.

"With AdvanceDoppler 6, we see oncoming storms from the leading edge. Because Doppler 9000 is located in Oklahoma City, we can now see those storms from the other side, if you will, and see them in real time. That's a true advantage over Nexrad which delivers delayed information. And of course, the better information we have and the earlier we have it, the earlier we can warn our viewers."

AdvanceDoppler 6 Live WARN is the latest in a long history of "firsts" for KOTV Channel 6. The station, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in October, was Tulsa's first television station and the second in the state of Oklahoma. KOTV was the first Tulsa television station to use Pathfinder storm tracking technology. Just two days after installation, Pathfinder and Giles were credited with saving lives when deadly tornadoes struck Westport, Skiatook and Oologah. AdvanceDoppler 6 Radar, bearing the Serial Number 0001, was the first radar of its kind to be installed and is the most powerful television weather radar available.
