PONCA CITY, Okla. (AP) -- Continental Carbon will spend $1.66-million to reduce emissions of black dust from its plant at Ponca City.
The company has signed an agreement with the state Department of Environmental Quality to make the improvements.
But Ponca Tribe officials say the improvements are too little and too late. The tribe says the upgrade does nothing for years of suffering by people living near the plant.
The plant opened in 1954 and produces carbon black, which is used in tires and other rubber and plastic products.
