TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Congressman Brad Carson -- an Oklahoma Democratic star who failed in his US Senate bid -- has no plans for another political campaign and is looking for a teaching post.

The Oxford-educated congressman lost to former Representative Tom Coburn by 53% to 41% Tuesday in a statewide election nowhere near as competitive as expected. Independent Sheila Bilyeu got 6%.

Carson did not rule out another political campaign but said he and wife Julie have no plans to do that.

Carson's retirement from politics leaves Democrats without one of its key elected officials.

Prominent Oklahoma Democrats in office are now limited to Governor Brad Henry, Attorney General Drew Edmondson and Dan Boren, who won Carson's congressional seat Tuesday.
