AG's office sets up domestic violence training sessions for hairdressers

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Attorney General Drew Edmondson says his office will sponsor a series of training session for cosmetologist as part of a national program to address domestic violence.

National training coordinator Jennifer Jaquess says women often share personal details with their hairdresser and salon professionals could help refer women in abusive situations to the right resources.

Edmondson says the program has produced results in other states.

The ``Cut it Out'' program was developed in 2002 in Alabama by the Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham and the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

It is now operated nationally by the Salons Against Domestic Abuse Fund, a partnership of Clairol Professional, the National Cosmetology Association and Southern Living At HOME.

Since the program was expanded in 2003, more than a thousand cosmetologists have attended training sessions in 11 states.

Training sessions in Oklahoma will begin at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., Oct. 11, at the Frances Tuttle Technology Center in Oklahoma City.
