The City of Tulsa has taken another step towards moving most city offices into a new building. Since Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor announced a few months ago a plan to consider moving city hall, the city really hasn't found any reason not to do it. Early on in that process, some city departments were told to make plans to move and some tenants in the future city hall were told they would be moving out and soon.
The current city hall is on the west side of downtown and it's old enough that it needs a lot of work. It's not big enough, so city employees are scattered over more than a dozen buildings in and around downtown, but most of them could be in the same building if it was larger, and the One Technology Center is more than enough space.
The mayor’s office said on Thursday the new city hall would be a "smart financial move" for Tulsa. They are putting together a proposal to buy the building which will go to the city council on June 12th. They must approve it as a budget item, and at the earliest, the city could start moving over there in the fall.
Not everyone would go, but most city offices would be in one building when the move was done.
