IRVING, Texas (AP) _ Oklahoma's Martin Smith is named the Big 12 men's track coach of the year after leading the Sooners to their first conference championship.

Before Smith came to Oklahoma two years ago, the Sooners had never finished higher than fourth at the Big 12 track meet.

Under Smith's guidance, Oklahoma has qualified 14 male athletes for the NCAA track meet next month. That's the most in school history.
