SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) _ A Maud man on trial for a 2006 killing will return to court June 26th for a new trial date after a Pottawatomie County jury deadlocked on a verdict.
District Judge Douglas Combs dismissed the panel of nine men and three women Wednesday night after they told the judge they were hopelessly deadlocked at 10-2.
Jurors began deliberating before 2:30 Thursday afternoon and took a sequestered dinner break about 6 p.m. When they couldn't reach a unanimous verdict, a mistrial was declared about 9:30.
Prosecutors charged Charlie Shawn Dagenhart with first-degree murder in the March 21st, 2006, shooting death of Ricky Black.
Authorities contend Dagenhart and another defendant in the case discussed killing the 35-year-old Black.
Dagenhart was shot in the knee that same night and investigators initially thought it was an accident.
The next day, deputies were called to property owned by Dagenhart's mother and found Black's body and a .44-caliber gun.
