ENID, Okla. (AP) -- A 12-year-old boy has been arrested after he confessed to writing a threatening note that was found in the restroom of his elementary school, police said.

McKinley Elementary was evacuated Wednesday morning after a note was found that said there was a bomb in the school.

Police who searched the building turned up no explosive devices.

The boy told police he and his friends "laughed because they got out of school for a while," according to Capt. Dean Grassino.

The boy was being held in the police department's community intervention center until there is room for him in a juvenile detention center.

Schools in Enid have been evacuated 22 times in the past year while police investigated false reports of bomb threats.

In October, an 11-year-old boy at a different elementary school was arrested under similar circumstances when a note was found in that school's rest room.

School officials plan to meet with police next week to discuss the problem.
