Mayor Kathy Taylor is getting some support for her controversial decision to look outside of Tulsa for a new police chief. City Councilor Jack Henderson and Roscoe Turner are among those backing Taylor's plan to interview candidates outside the Tulsa Police Department. They say in light of the on-going violence the job should go to someone with proven experience in reducing crime.

“We believe this is a fair process for everyone, and provides the citizens of Tulsa a high quality of confidence that we will have the best possible person leading our police department," Tulsa City Councilor Jack Henderson said.

The City Council and Civil Service Commission have clarified that Mayor Taylor does have the authority to consider external candidates.
