SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) A Shawnee attorney accused of molesting a teenage client has agreed to immediately stop practicing law and won't be eligible for a new license for five years.
The Oklahoma Bar Association had requested Gary Kirk Jay's license be temporarily suspended, pending the outcome of the criminal case against him in Pottawatomie County.
Jay's lawyer, Ben McCullar, said Jay felt it was in everyone's best interest for him to resign. McCullar says Jay plans to devote his time and energy to defending himself in the criminal case.
Prosecutors have charged Jay with lewd molestation, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to court records, police found Jay in an apartment with two teenage boys, pornography on the television, open beer cans, burned marijuana cigarettes and cocaine.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 4th.
