Thousands of people in Muskogee are still without power, and residents in Wagoner woke up to no water.
News on 6 reporter Chris Wright has been surveying the damage in both towns.
Residents in Wagoner woke up to a combo of no power and no water. It was about seven hours before the water came back on, but there’s still no power.
The storm has moved out of the area, but the recovery is expected to continue for awhile. In Muskogee some roads are still covered with tree limbs, and an estimated 16,000 were without power Monday morning. Crews are working around the clock to restore electricity, but residents say they were told it could take up to ten days before power is fully restored.
In Wagoner about 30-percent of the town is still in the dark. A bigger problem Monday morning was the water supply. Officials say a glitch caused the town to lose water for seven hours; water was restored about noon Monday. Wagoner’s Public Works Director is still not sure what that glitch was, or what caused it, but he says it will not happen again.
"Some of the guys we're keeping an eye on it, we've been on towers manually checking the pressure gauges within them as well. Hopefully the sun will come out, it will be a blessing today, and knock a little of this ice coming off," said Dwayne Elam Wagoner Public Works Director.
That sun was out for a couple of hours Monday afternoon, and the area started to thaw, but with the sun setting there is a chance everything will refreeze.
