OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Attorney General Drew Edmondson says some Oklahomans could be eligible for money as part of a settlement of a lawsuit with Sony.
The lawsuit is over anti-copying software Sony BMG Music put on millions of compact discs to prevent people from illegally copying music.
But consumers were not aware of the software and when the CDs were played on personal computers and the anti-copying software was transferred to the computers. The software exposed the computers open to computer viruses and in some cases people tried to remove the software and their computer hard drives crashed.
Edmondson says Sony is agreeing to stop using the software without disclosing it to consumers and will play up to $175 to eligible consumers.
Claims for restitution can be filed on Sony's Web site.
