COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Troy Smith had to part ways with his Heisman Trophy today.

College football's top individual prize had to be shipped back to Columbus because airport security wouldn't allow the Ohio State quarterback to take it on a plane.

Smith was wearing a black leather jacket with the Heisman insignia on back when he arrived at the airport in New York, where he picked up the award Saturday night.

Eddie George was the last Buckeye to win the Heisman in 1995. His trophy got stuck in an airport X-ray machine, losing the tip of its right index finger and bending the middle finger.

Smith says he didn't want that to happen to his Heisman, so he's got no problem with shipping it home.
