The News on 6 has had stories of lives lost and lives saved in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Now, we have a story of a new life.

A young couple left their storm damaged home in Mississippi, so they could have their baby safely in Oklahoma. News on 6 reporter Rick Wells sat down with them and has their story.

Say hello to Adriana Jade Secondine, born on September 2nd at the Claremore Indian Hospital. She was, well, I'll let Dad tell you. Brent Secondine: "She was 5 pounds 8 ounces, eighteen inches long." Brent and Misty Secondine lived in Poplarville, Mississippi along state highway 11, just east of the Mississippi River, directly in the path of Hurricane Katrina.

They were at the hospital, Misty was to give birth to their first child the morning the hurricane hit, but Katrina changed their plans. Brent Secondine: "While the hurricane was coming through, there were small trees in the yard and the tops were touching the ground the wind was blowing so hard."

The hospital was damaged, there was no power no water, they were sent home, but home had a tree on top of it. Misty Secondine: "What wasn't damaged by the tree, the wind and rain and everything else blown on it so." So they packed up what they could grabbed a jug of water, what little cash they had and headed for Brent's father's house in Oklahoma. Adriana was born last Friday.

Everyone including me has asked about naming her Katrina. Misty: "No, this is a category 5 hurricane; we are not naming our baby after this catastrophic disaster." They both have relatives still in Mississippi, so they'll go back eventually to show off the baby but think they'll make a new home here. Misty: "three strangers in Wal-Mart gave me a hug yesterday; they have been wonderful to us here." Brent:"She's a miracle, she's a glimmer of hope, everything will be fine."

Adriana could be the first Hurricane Katrina baby born in Oklahoma.
