OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma City Police are investigating the burglaries of more than 60 pay phones in the area in the past year-and-a-half -- but it isn't money the thief is after.
More than $60,000 worth of electronic microprocessors and electronic coin changers have been stolen from 61 convenience store pay phones owned by Sooner Telecommunications of Plano, Texas.
Sooner Telecommunication officials belief the thief is either a pay phone technician or someone who has worked in the field. The company says the equipment is being resold on the Internet and to other phone vendors.
The thefts have been reported in Oklahoma City, Edmond, Del City, Moore, Midwest City and in Lawton.
