Often when people hear someone has the oldest of something, they just want to go look at it. So when News on 6 reporter Rick Wells heard about Broken Arrow's oldest house, he drove out to see it for himself.

Located in the 400 block of West Broadway is Broken Arrow's oldest house. Former Mayor George Wagner lived in this house for more than fifty years, but it's much older that that.

Laurie Hancock: "Originally built in 1898, off premises we're told somewhere out between Broken Arrow and Coweta, then when the railroad came through they moved it on logs to this location." That was in 1901. When she bought it in 2000, the porch had to be completely restored, and an old tree was actually growing into the corner of the house. To save tree she had the corner shaved off. That fixed the problem, but the tree is still growing. "The tree is still growing so I'm not sure how much more of the house will have to be shaved." But worth it she says to save that big beautiful tree.

Inside she tried to restore the house as much as possible to its original state. There are three big rooms downstairs, upstairs there are three bedrooms. The home didn’t come with closets and bathrooms. Houses back then didn't have them. A bathroom was added downstairs when the house got running water.

What the house has is plenty of furniture and design pieces, because that is Laurie Hancock’s business. She likes running it out a real house, easier to show things off.

Laurie Hancock says they often get visitors who just want to look at Broken Arrow's oldest house.

It's located at 411 West Broadway, and is open Tuesday through Saturday for shopping or just looking.
