OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Students who transfer because their neighborhood schools need improvement can receive free transportation to the new campus.

The federal No Child Left Behind Act requires school districts to set aside federal money for transportation.

Parents of about 600 students in the Tulsa and Oklahoma City districts last year took advantage of the transfer option and qualified for free busing.

In Tulsa, school officials allow students who attend low-performing schools to transfer to any school in the district.

Oklahoma City limits a family's choices to one of two schools close to their homes.
