OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ When compared to the rest of the nation, Oklahoma ranks near the bottom for recycling.

A report by ``Bio-Cycle'' magazine showed that Oklahoma recycles 1 percent of its municipal waste. Mississippi was the only state to recycle less.

Details for Alabama, Alaska and Montana were not listed.

Landfill fees cost Oklahoma City about $3.5-million in 2004.

Officials say the city collected about nine-thousand tons of recyclables last year and more than 260,000 tons of trash.

Authorities say Oklahoma City could save money if people diverted their trash to their recycling bins.

Officials say the state's landfills could be full within 20 years if more Oklahomans don't start recycling.
