NEW YORK (AP) -- The former CEO of WorldCom is going to prison for 25 years and that's good enough for Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson.
Bernard Ebbers was sentenced in federal court in New York Wednesday to 25 years in the huge accounting fraud that led to the bankruptcy of WorldCom and what federal prosecutors say is "the largest securities fraud in history."
Ebbers also faces charges in Oklahoma, but Edmondson says he's satisfied with the federal sentenced and will not pursue the state charges.
Edmondson filed charges against Ebbers and five other former WorldCom executives in August 2003 accusing them of violating the Oklahoma Securities Act. He delayed prosecution at the request of federal prosecutors.
The other five reached plea deals with the government and are to be sentenced in the coming weeks. Edmondson says he'll evaluate each case, but says he anticipates the federal sentences will be "adequate" to take care of Oklahoma's interests in the case.
