The Tulsa Parks and Recreation Board may change its decision regarding a Tulsa Zoo exhibit of the biblical version of creation.
The board chairman now says the motion approved has been misunderstood and needs clarification. On June 7th, the board voted to accept an exhibit designed and donated by Dan Hicks, a Christian. His proposed exhibit spelled out the creation account from Genesis, and the parks board approved it for display, on the condition it be alongside other accounts of creation.
But the chairman of the parks board, Walt Helmerich, says there was "no suggestion it would go up as designed." Helmerich says the zoo staff would design the display and the zoo would not accept any donation from Hicks. Helmerich said he didn't believe the motion the board approved was explicit enough, and that at the next meeting, planned for August, it would be discussed and possibly reconsidered.
Hicks says he's proceeding with the exhibit and hopes to have it ready for viewing next week.
