It’s an Ozone Alert weekend in the Tulsa area. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality says both Saturday and Sunday are Ozone Alert Days.
In all, Tulsa has had five Ozone Alert days this week. Tulsa violated federal ozone standards on Tuesday and Wednesday for the first time since 2003. This week’s ozone violations could contribute to Tulsa being put on the federal government's "dirty air list" of polluted cities.
Officials say Tulsa area residents can help by limiting their driving on Ozone Alert Days. In addition, homeowners can avoid mowing with gasoline powered lawn mowers. Motorists are being advised if you must fill your gas tank be sure you don’t spill any gasoline. Fill up your gas tank after dark if possible and turn up your home’s thermostat a few days before leaving home this weekend.
