McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- A July 12th trial date has been set for two McAlester city councilmen who are fighting recall petitions against them.
Councilors Michael Dawkins and Louis Smitherman are asking the court to dismiss the recall petitions that accuse them of being negligent. The petitions to remove them from office say the two were negligent because former City Manager Randy Green was paid nearly $580,000 for unused vacation and leave time.
A recall election is set for September 13th.
Green was suspended then fired earlier this year and Mayor Dale Covington and Councilman Charles Repass resigned after the buybacks were publicized.
